TAEKWONDO HISTORY

Like most defense sports Taekwondo has its origins in the Far East.

For many centuries there were many self-defense techniques practiced by monks and initially

citizens who are not allowed to carry weapons. These techniques were within certain families or clans

kept secret until / - 1850 AD.

After this it slowly became known here and several self-defense sports developed. The best known is the Japanese Jujutsu and Karate and Judo evolved from this. Besides the Japanese Judo and

Karate Kempo had been in China, Kung Fu and Kun-Tau and the Taek Kyon in Korea.

Taekwondo is really a synthesis of the Korean Taek Kyon and Japanese Karate later added.

It is a martial art characterized by the frequent use of foot techniques.

Taekyon, is the archetype of Taekwondo is an ancient martial art and is still practiced in contemporary Korea.

HISTORY OF THE KOREAN KWAN

martial arts were banned this time around, some were still practicing the style and so created

Then will follow here the history of modern taekwondo.

The name Taekwondo was created on April 11, 1955 by

General Choi Hong Hi (November 9, 1918 - † 15 June 2002)

the father of modern Taekwondo, and means: Tae:

collection techniques foot, Kwon means all the techniques and hand and fist Do: The path to the goal through self-control.

In short, "the way to the goal with the feet and fists."

Previously, in our Taekwondo is often incorrectly

"Korean karate" mentioned.

In the early years 50, former general

Choi Hong Hi (10th Dan) on an idea.

From childhood, he grew up and Taekyon of his time in Japan, he knew karate.

He felt that if both martial arts would bring together a more complete one

September 16, 1961 the Korean Taekwondo Association (KTA) was established, with a strong man

Un Young Kim was pushed forward. On May 28, 1973, during the first world championships in Seoul, the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) was founded.

Everything is now in an accelerated.

More and more countries join the latter federation.

Un Young Kim was born on March 19, 1931 in Seoul.

He first studied in America at Texas Western College before his

university studies finished it off at the Yonsei University in Seoul.

Here he gained his title of doctor. Then he covered many important official positions

as secretary to the prime minister, a counselor at the United Nations, Secretary of

things to name a few. He practiced as a sport Taekwondo and Judo at the national level.

In 1971 he became chairman of the Korean Taekwondo Association. Then he holds numerous

offices within the Korean Olympic Committee in 1993 to finally be president.

In 1986 he chaired the W.T.F. and he chooses for a refreshing approach.

In 2002 he held the following functions:

Member of the IOC, President of GAISF, President of the Korean Sports Council,

Chairman of the Korean Olympic Committee, President of the World Taekwondo Federation

President of the Kukkiwon, Member of Korean National Assembly.

The dream of two people (Un Young Kim and Choi Hong Hi) is bringing back the styles of both Taekwondo (WTF) & ITF) in 2001 during the world games in Korea was a matter

made important meeting. Uniting North and South Korea (2000) played here

certainly a large role here.

The International Taekwondo is completely operated from the Kukkiwon, in Seoul, Korea. It organizes the Kukkiwon Dan is responsible for the examination and approval of the Dan certificate for all taekwondokas affiliated to the WTF through their national association. In 2001, there were 2,951,778 Dan degree holders all over the world of which 694 in Belgium.

Belgium currently has 4 people with a 7th Dan grade since 2001, including Crown Prince Philippe of Saxe-Coburg.

The Kukkiwon was built in 1971, on top of the hills of the Kangnam district of Seoul. It is a sports complex that not only the W.T.F. houses but also provides modern facilities for training and competition in Taekwondo. It was the first and only sports complex of its kind in the world. The Kukkiwon was also the place to be on the 1st and 2nd World Taekwondo Championships organized. The first International Referee seminars were given here.

Yet the Kukkiwon more than a sports complex. It is the leader in promoting

Taekwondo in the Olympics. It is also involved in technical developments

and investigation of Taekwondo, public relations and forms of coaches.

Although Taekwondo in Belgium, with its 6000 members, is still relatively unknown,

Is it globally, along with karate, the biggest sporting war. She has about 50 million members across 168 countries.

That popularity meant that Taekwondo was a demonstration sport at the Olympics be seen
